In the eventuality that you want to keep track of the modifications made by various files on your computer, then perhaps you can consider using a dedicated tool. As the name suggests, FileWatcher is a tool designed to keep a close eye on the assigned files and provide notifications regarding changes made.

The application is portable, so simply download and decompress the archive in the desired location on your drive. The interface is minimalistic and it is mostly dedicated to the console that informs you about the changes made to the files.

Speaking of the files, before you get started, you need to access the Open Configuration Tool option located in the lower right side and assign a folder. As you would expect, the app enables you to specify if you prefer to include the subfolders, a feature that may come in handy sometimes.

Starting the application entails marking the Start Listening option located in the lower left corner and you are set to go. As indicated in the console, the application starts tracking the assigned directory and displays changes made in the dedicated interface. To stop the program, simply uncheck the Start Listening option.

The idea behind the tool is to provide you with insight about the files created, modified, deleted, renamed or any other type of change that is not generally visible to the average user. The program can also come in handy when you are attempting to identify suspicious files that made their way into your system and are trying to infect your files.
