Intuitive program that can help you find any duplicate files on your system, which can also identify old backups and temp files to delete from your machine #Duplicate File Finder #Dupe Finder #Disk Cleanup #Duplicate #Dupe #Finder
Duplicate files are redundant to have on your system. Unless you’re backing up your data to other storage, having multiple copies of a file on the same drive is nothing more than wasted space. Even with the larger disk sizes of today being more affordable, you ideally don’t want to have loads of duplicate files taking up storage that could be used for more lucrative purposes.
HogWallop can lend a hand with this. It will find all dupe files present on a given drive, and it can also help you get rid of any old backups and temp files. It can also find large files on your system, so that you can offload anything you have no use for.
The program is essentially as straightforward as it gets in terms of displaying your duplicates. First you select a drive, optionally set a size threshold and an extension, then click Find to begin the scanning process. This may take a while for larger drives, and you’ll also need to launch the app with admin rights if you’re looking to scan your OS partition.
There doesn’t seem to be any option to restrict your dupe file scanning to a specific folder, however, but in any case, setting size thresholds should take care of those larger files.
After the scanning has concluded, all you need to do is double-click the duplicate data to transfer it to the delete list.
The Cleanup menu can help you get rid of temp and orphan files, as well as old backup data that you have no use for. Temp and orphan files (which are mostly memory dumps and hibernation images you don’t really need) can hog some of your storage, and every little bit counts in the end.
The Large Files menu works as you would expect: it will find any entries that are larger than your specified size. Note that the software can optionally account for system files too, but I would generally steer clear of that for stability purposes.
HogWallop is straightforward enough to use that it’s very easy to recommend. It’s lightweight and intuitive, so there’s no catch in taking the program for a quick spin to scan for duplicates on your system.
