Basic file management can be effortlessly done through the default File Explorer Windows puts at your disposal. Sure enough, it comes with some limitations, but there are tons of alternatives out there, just like Iustin File Manager, which extend functionality through tab support, and better arrangement of files and folders.

On the one hand, the application provides a great deal of flexibility, especially since there’s no installation involved. This allows you to carry it on a USB flash drive to use on other computers besides your own. Portability keeps system registries clean, so you don’t have to worry about affecting the stability of the target PC.

The application aims to be a better File Explorer, but a few seconds in and you discover it aimed a bit too high for what it has to offer. On the one hand, view types are limited to the detail format, which shows items in a list, along with related details like name, size, item type, as well as date modified.

As far as the navigation list is concerned, you have no trouble accommodating with the tree list of all directories on your computer. To quickly jump to a specific location, there’s an upper address field where you can write down, or paste the address to a custom location.

The application doesn’t let you keep more explorer pages active at a time. On the other hand, it does come with support for multiple tabs, but these stack up on top of the navigation panels, and the more tabs you keep open, the less management space you get.

Sadly, tabs can’t be really used to your advantage, at least not when moving files around. This needs to be done through the copy and paste operation, because dragging them over different tabs has no effect. What’s more, you can’t save them as favorites, and you start off with only one tab every time the application starts.

The context menu is the same for files and folders. Right-click on empty space provides even less options, such as the possibility to create a new text file, folder, access the source folder properties panel, and paste selection.

All things considered, we can state that Iustin File Manager comes with good intentions, but is a little underprepared to take on File Explorer. The visual design is minimalistic, with no accommodation problems, and tab support for more flexibility. However, there are certain limitations which have an impact on overall practicality.
