PatchPE might be the solution you are looking for in case you are using an older iteration of Windows and face compatibility issues. This utility is designed to tamper with the headers of an executable file to make that particular application compatible with an older Windows version. In other words, programs that are marked to run only on Windows 10, for instance, might be able to launch successfully on Windows XP or older.
PatchPE does not comes with a regular interface. Instead, it runs in the command console, but its syntax is simple enough for anyone to try it out. It only requires you to use the path of the target file as a parameter for PatchPE.
The application displays information regarding the operating system version logged in the executable header, alongside details about the image and the subsystem version. It then proceeds to overwriting the fields that restrict the operating system edition, namely MajorOperatingSystemVersion, MinorOperatingSystemVersion, MajorSubsystemVersion, and MinorSubsystemVersion. The purpose is to make the application in question compatible with Windows NT 4.0 or later.
Please note that in some situations the patching operation might not work, as PatchPE might make use of features that are not available on older OS releases.
