SDShred

SDShred is a speedy and simple-to-use software application that enables you to securely remove files from the computer and prevent third parties from recovering them using dedicated software. It's part of the SpyBot - Search & Destroy package.

It comes bundled with several settings that can be quickly figured out, whether or not you have previous experience with file shredders.

SDShred is wrapped in a portable package, so it doesn't require setup. This means that you can save its executable file to a custom location on the HDD and just click it to launch the app. There is also the option to make a copy and keep it stored on a pen drive to directly run SDShred on any PC. It doesn't modify the Windows registry configuration.

The user-friendly interface consists of a common-looking window with a plain and simple structure, where you can add as many files to the list as you want to shred.

It's possible to find out the full path of each file, adjust the number of deletion passes, as well as to remove an item from the list or clear the entire queue to start the whole project from scratch.

SDShred includes several templates that let you add files from the temporary folder, in addition to Internet Explorer cookies and cache, along with Firefox and Opera cache.

The entire shredding procedure may take a while, depending on the size and volume of files. We haven't come across any problems in our testing, though, as SDShred didn't hang, crash or show error dialogs. CPU and RAM consumption was low, so it didn't hog system resources.

On the other hand, this is a pretty old app, and it doesn't include rich features and configuration parameters. Nevertheless, SDShred serves its purpose, so you can at least give it a shot.
