Computers are the home of thousands and thousands of files, out of which collections of media files usually get quite impressive. Managing such large media file collections might be overwhelming, especially if their filenames are not suggestive.
Aiming to save you time and effort to manually change the name of your multimedia, MediaRenamer provides a console-based application ready to help you batch rename photos, videos and audio files.
As mentioned above, MediaRenamer is a command line tool. In other words, it only works in the Windows console, there is no standard GUI available. However, you simply have to launch the application or run the “--help” (“-h” or “/?”) command to get the list of all the available commands, their syntax and additional instructions and explanations. Usage examples are provided as well to make things easier for you.
MediaRenamer allows you to include metadata into a file’s name, which makes it possible for you to keep all the media files organized much easier. You get to build your own filename template containing various tokens that are filled in automatically during the renaming process. The rename patterns can include count tokens, the date and the time of their creation, image dimensions (width and height), the name of the original file, as well as other various attributes.
MediaRenamer features a few additional options to manage errors and overwriting situations. Moreover, the renaming process can run recursively, meaning that MediaRenamer can process al the files inside subfolders of the target directory.
Errors are also managed, and exceptions and skips can be shown for you to address the issues separately.
MediaRenamer can rename multimedia files in bulk, but the lack of a standard GUI might be a drawback to many, especially since there are alternatives out there, some extremely efficient. Even so, more experienced users might appreciate the simplicity of an application that can rename multiimedia files with a few simple instructions, allowing the incorporation of metadata into a file’s name.
