As we're sure you'll agree, the basic file search functions provided by Windows are relatively decent for day-to-day tasks but not exactly top notch when it comes to finding duplicate files.

That said, the easiest way to remove duplicates from your computer is to employ the services of specialized, third-party apps that reduce the whole job to just a few mouse clicks, in most cases.

Task Discoverer is a non-impressive yet potentially useful piece of software that allows you to conveniently locate and delete duplicates files. It's capable of locating music files, videos, Office documents, most image formats and even archives.

Right off the bat, we will say this: it's not exactly the most complex and feature-packed app of this sort. However, it's definitely straightforward enough not to cause headaches to inexperienced users.

As expected, it has two main sections, namely Manager and Results. From the first one, you can select which types of duplicate files you are specifically looking for and start the whole scanning process, while the latter is the place where you can view and manage duplicates.

You will also quickly discover that, just as we were saying, there aren't that many available options for managing duplicates (for example, you cannot rename or move selected dupes), hence, you'll have to make do with just two self-explanatory options, "Delete New Files" and "Delete Old Files."

If you're only interested in quickly locating and removing duplicate files, and other, more advanced, features seem like overkill for you, then you may give Task Discoverer a quick spin, although, we will point out, there are literally a thousand other apps of this sort that do the exact same thing.
