XPlitter

New computers come with larger and larger storage devices, but this doesn’t mean your project files get smaller. On the contrary, some files get larger because of the advancements in technology and complexity. In case you need to share particular files but meet size demands, you might want to use applications like XPlitter to split files.

The application is good to go from the moment download is done, because it’s not packed inside an installer. This means it can be used directly from a thumb drive, in case you need to run it on different computers. Note, however, that the computer you decide to use it on needs to be fitted with Java Runtime Environment.

The visual design is quite intuitive. All functions are found under suggestive buttons, while a couple of fields make it easy to pick the file you want to split, and decide where to drop all files. There’s also a progress slider to let you know how much you need to wait.

By the end of the operation, you get a hold of multiple files of a specified size. Sadly, the application doesn’t come with any predefined values for CD/DVD, or other possible limitations, so the split value needs to be manually specified, with a drop-down menu letting you choose from MB, KB, or bytes.

Needless to say that the length of the process mostly depends on the size of the source file. The interface isn’t fitted with a join function, but don’t worry, because the application automatically creates a BAT file in the destination, which is used to merge all parts together, thus making the process quite convenient.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that XPlitter is sure to come in handy if you need to share a bunch of large files which exceed limitations imposed by the sharing service of choice. It’s highly intuitive, while merging files back together is an automated process.
