Xelitan File Finder

Hitting that “Start” button and typing in the name of a file is probably your first impulse when wanting to locate a file on your computer. While Windows comes with its own search methods, both via the Start menu and via Windows Explorer, there are also third-party applications out there, many tryng to offer a tad more than Windows’ built-in tools. Such a software utility is Xelitan File Finder.

This particular application allows you to carry out file searches effortlessly, filtering the search results by the keyword you enter in the search box. There are a few additional filters that you can use to narrow down the results.

As for the target path, Xelitan File Finder will not search your entire PC. Instead, you must select the folder to scan and, furthermore, choose whether to include subfolders in the search or leave them out.

While Xelitan File Finder can spot files matching the given name, the application can also search for content inside files. In other words, it can also search for files containing a specific text. ANSI, HEX and Unicode are supported. You can configure the application to completely ignore the text case.

The results are displayed in an organized table that contains the file name, the exact path, its size and the date of the last modification. Right-clicking on the table displays a menu that you can use to open a file or its directory, delete a result from the list and even copy the selection to the clipboard. The list of files can also be exported to various formats, such as CSV, XML, Json, HTML, INI, Text.

To make it even easier to initiate file searches, you can optionally integrate Xelitan File Finder with Windows Explorer by adding a new option to the context menu. Administrators’ rights are required to carry out this operation.

Xelitan File Finder is no more than a simple file finder whose plus, compared to the Windows’ Explorer search, is that it can perform content searches. Still, when thinking about other third-party search tools, this application is pretty basic. Including more filter options (by file type, for instance) and preview options could add to its value.
