Using the computer on a daily basis, for work or leisure activities, sooner or later gets it filled with tons of files that in the end eat up a lot of space. This is only if you don’t regularly clean your PC, and in case you decide to do so, applications like AMUST Disk Cleaner can help you easily identify directories that use the most disk space.

It only takes a little while for the application to get installed on your system, and before you know it, the set of features can be put to the test. The visual design is pretty intuitive, letting individuals of all experience levels accommodate in a jiffy. Make sure to run it with administrator privileges so data can be properly fetched.

As the name might suggest, the main target here are disk drives. However, the application only supports NTFS systems, which renders it obsolete for FAT drives. Regardless of type, all detected drives are shown in the upper toolbar, but you’re only able to select those under the NTFS system.

Shortly after the drive is selected, a pie representation of available and used disk space is shown in the main window, with a small representation for each folder. Directory name, size, and number of items are also in plain sight.

You can navigate to any location as you would using the Windows File Explorer, and there’s even an address field to manually write it down to jump to a specific location. In case the pie chart view doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can switch to a list mode.

However, the application is a bit deceiving, at least through the name, because it’s merely a poor alternative to the File Explorer. No operations can be performed through the application other than viewing. Even the context menu is reduced to a few filter options, folder properties, and the possibility to Explore, which brings up the native Windows counterpart.

Any cleaning you consider is possible through the application’s set of features is only an illusion. Sure enough, it does help you get a better view of space distribution, but files are not shown, and any move or remove operation needs to be done through conventional methods.

Bottom line is that AMUST Disk Cleaner does come with good intentions and manages to provide a detailed, and neat view of folder space distribution. In spite of the intuitive design, quick detection, and easy navigation, there’s little to no operation to perform, so you still need to rely on Windows tools or other third-party programs for any management options.
