Part of the Sysinternals Suite of tools, DiskExt is a simple and easy-to-use console-based application that can reveal detailed information regarding the volume disk mappings on your Windows computer. It practically is a disk extent dumper, as called by its developers, which shows you a list of volumes and where they are mounted, along with information about extents, offsets and lengths.
DiskExt practically demonstrates the use of the IOCTL_VOLUME_GET_VOLUME_DISK_EXTENTS command in a command-line window. It is a system information tools that retrieves data concerning the disks the partitions of a volume are located on and, additionally, where they are located on (the offset and the length).
It is advisable you run the application with administrative rights, so as it can retrieve details about every volume available, without facing an “access denied” error.
Once you run DiskExt, the application automatically reads hardware information and retrieves it in the console window. For each volume, you can see the volume name and the partition it is mounted on, as well as the list of extents on each disk, their offset and their length.
The console interface (or Powershell, whichever you use) allows you to copy this information to your clipboard for later use.
