ExtraDisks

Your computer may have the disk structure you created when deploying Windows, but creating additional disks is also possible thanks to applications such as ExtraDisks. This software tool is designed to help you create new virtual disks without having to alter the configuration of physical drives or create new partitions.

ExtraDisks displays the drive explorer within its main window, allowing you to view a list of drives, be them system drives or CS/DVD-ROM drives. There are three different virtual disks ExtraDisks can create, namely encrypted disks, file-based disks and folder-based disks, each with its own particularities, as shown below.   Encrypted disks rely on AES128/AES256 encryption and are designed to store sensitive information securely. Creating a new disk in ExtraDisks requires you to follow a few steps to generate a new container, if one is not already available. At this point, you are required to enter the name of the file, ithe disk label, its size and the file system type to use. As expected, a password must also be specified.

It is also possible to create virtual disks based on files, which are designed to host a large number of small files (for instance, photos, music and other media files) while making the transition to another computer.

Last but not least, folder-based disks can help you access the contents of subfolders. For instance, a folder with photos can be mounted on a drive, while a folder with audio files can be mounted on another disk.

Regardless of the type of disk you choose, ExtraDisks allows you to select a drive letter from the available ones. Moreover, it can be configured to automatically mount a drive upon Windows start.

ExtraDisks helps you create virtual disks on your Windows PC, but it also comes with additional tools to help you get started. To be more specific, it features a startup manager and a few other tools for system administrators, namely a network fixer, a driver manager, a screensaver tool, a control panel manager and a font changer. Nevertheless, its main function is related to creating virtual disks.
