Explorer Restart

Having a crowded operating system can make it run quite slow, or even change its core functionality, which is usually prone to errors. There are some inconveniences you can often encounter, such as returning functionality to Windows Explorer. Dedicated to this function alone, Explorer Restart does exactly what the name suggests.

One the bright side of things, the application isn’t bundled inside a setup package, so you can see what it can do for you from the moment download is done. Moreover, this also means it’s possible to have it stored on a thumb drive along with other tools, just in case you have to deal with troublesome computers.

You might want to wait for a little while when running the application, and don’t be scared if the taskbar and all other windows disappear. A slim command-line window shows up, informing you that File Explorer is currently closed, and that you need to wait for a while.

The application doesn’t bring any harm to the target computer, and merely restarts File Explorer. You can just as well do this from the Task Manager. The only consequence is that you lose all active Explorer Windows, but this brings a bit more functionality, refreshing your system.

This method can come in handy when running slow computers, or you notice that Explorer isn’t really responsive. It doesn’t take a lot of time to restart it, but this mostly depends on how overwhelmed or damaged your computer is. A cool trick is to create a shortcut and assign a hotkey command to always have a method of restarting the Explorer at hand.

Explorer Restart might not be the type of application to use on a daily basis, but it can surely get you out of some sticky situations, or at least cause less frustration when waiting for Explorer to respond.
