A compact window shows up on launch, and it’s the form you always encounter when choosing to launch programs or files this way. There are also controls to access the configuration panel so you can create the list of items of interest. This can even be done through a drag and drop operation. On the bright side of things, the main window can easily be brought up through a hotkey command, but it can’t be changed.

An additional option can be enabled to make the window stay on top of everything else. In case you want to have it ready by the time you reach the desktop, this needs to be manually done by adding a shortcut to the system Startup folder.
