Startup Manager

Particular types of programs create entries in the Startup folder so that load as soon as you reach the desktop. However, not all of them ask for your permission, or allow such an option by default. Luckily, you can take matters into your own hands with specialized applications like Startup Manager in a quick and easy process.

There’s a high chance you need to run the application with administrator privileges to be able to properly read startup items. What’s more, the lack of recent updates might cause some compatibility issues in the sense that existing items are either not properly detected or not shown at all.

All it has to offer is found in a pretty compact main window, which you can easily drag across the desktop and resize to be able to view more items in the same panel. You’re directly taken to the help tab where you find detailed description of the process, what operations can be performed, as well as how these are handled.

There are two methods to the operation. On the one hand, you can choose to handle startup items for the currently connected user. If properly detected, items are shown in a list by name. Dedicated options allow you to edit existing values, or even remove multiple entries. The total number of items is also shown.

On the other hand, there’s the possibility to manage items for all users, but you need to use an administrator account. There’s little to no difference between the methods of approach, except the target user. Moreover, the application also lets you add new entries by simply selecting the target executable with the browse dialog.

Bottom line is that Startup Manager is a practical application with which to handle programs running on startup, even for multiple users. However, the lack of recent updates might prevent it from properly detecting existing items, but it still proves useful when adding your own to the list.
