Volt might not be the most comprehensive of names, but it does give the user a slight hint as to what might be done with it. It deals with energy or electricity and in that respect, most of you might already be thinking of laptop batteries, which is not at all bad. Yes, indeed, this program deals with laptop batteries, offering more information than your standard Windows-included apps and widgets.

Don't go expecting who knows what complex interface. This remains a tool, after all, but it does not mean it's not organized or intuitive in the way it has its various options displayed. On the contrary, it works like a charm. Each particular set of options is grouped in tabs. You have a tray tab, a command area, and an idle and battery section. For all the extras that don't fit in any of the previous categories, there is a miscellaneous section.

Aside from giving you extensive details about your battery, this program can also deal with a couple of sophisticated commands, most of them battery related, of course. You can schedule when to restart, power off, hibernate, or shut down your machine. You can even set an alarm for a couple of seconds in order to prepare yourself for the final moments of your computer session.

Volt might look like a small and insignificant application, but as you start working with it you will realize it is a mature and very friendly program meant to help you understand more about your machine's battery as well as guide you in scheduling a couple of actions, semi-automating some processes you'd otherwise have to painstakingly do by hand. Even so, the app will require a couple of permissions before working at its maximum potential.
