Macro Keys

Every computer user is familiar with the popular key combinations that carry out specific tasks in Windows, such as copying with CTRL-C and pasting with CTRL-V.

While these well-known hotkeys work for everybody, it is also possible to create your own custom key combinations for performing different actions or tasks. Macro Keys is the tool to do that, allowing you to create system-wide key combinations in Windows.

Delivered as a Store app only, Macro Keys is easily installed in Windows. Once launched, it sets a few hotkeys in place, activating them automatically.   Mostly, these hotkeys allow quick playback control using the keyboard: you can jump to the next or the previous track in the player, play, pause or stop the current song, turn the volume up or down, mute and unmute the microphone.

Aside from audio playback controls, Macro Keys also sets additional hotkeys for accessing a few well-known web pages.

You are free to delete any of the existing hotkeys or disable them temporarily. Key combinations can be changed to your liking and new hotkeys can be added to the list.

The first step to create a new shortcut key in Macro Keys requires you to select the combination of keys to trigger the action in question. The application displays a virtual keyboard that you can use to choose the key combination.

Please keep in mind that the developers of Macro Keys follow the recommendations of Microsoft when creating hotkeys, namely, to also include one of the following: CTRL, ALT, Win or Shift.

Next, you are promoted to choose the action associated with the hotkey. Macro Keys can launch applications on your computer, open URLs, execute a script or control media playback.

Macro Keys gives you the freedom to create your own shortcut keys to work with in Windows. This might make it easier to launch applications or open webpages you frequently access. Controlling the multimedia playback or running a script can also be carried out easier and faster.
