DPI Gonzales

If you use multiple displays with different DPIs, you may have come across an issue: the pointer spear appears to differ greatly when moving from one monitor to another, which can get rather irritating.

DPI Gonzales is a clever open-source application that attempts to mitigate this problem by performing automatic adjustments to the pointer speed whenever you move the mouse from a high-DPI to a low-DPI display.

Once you launch DPI Gonzales, it checks the Windows pointer speed setting and uses it as a baseline for its calculations. When moving the cursor to a different monitor, the pointer speed is adjusted automatically depending on its resolution, DPI and the Windows scaling setting.

It is preferable to keep the pointer speed in Windows at the default setting, which is right in the middle of the slider, and to disable the “Enhance Pointer Precision” option. It is important to note that, after the application is launched, any changes to the mouse speed setting will be reverted when moving to a different monitor.

There is no question that DPI Gonzales can be very helpful if your machine is equipped with high- and low-DPI monitors, but it would have been great if the effects of the customizable parameters were explained in the documentation.

Users also have to add the application to the startup list manually, but this shouldn’t be all that difficult. The developer has even provided some instructions to help you out.

In a nutshell, DPI Gonzales is worth a try if you are bothered by the noticeable pointer speed differences between high- and low-DPI monitors in Windows 10. It should help mitigate this issue, and it is very unobtrusive, but not particularly novice-friendly.
