The way Windows manages your computer's resources may not be suitable for all types of users. Especially when it comes to performance, some users often prefer using the High Performance plan in the Power Options menu, which can be detrimental in some cases. PowerPlanManager, per its name, is a small utility that was designed to automatically change the user's power plan, based on their activity on the computer.
The philosophy behind this tool is simple: by detecting when the user is on the computer, their preferred power plan is engaged, so that they can benefit from the performance most suitable for their workflows. That isn't really anything new, as anyone could manually change their power plans this way without a problem. Where this tool's role is best exemplified, however, is during idle time.
Simply put, when the tool detects that the user hasn't moved their mouse in a while, or if their computer is displaying a screensaver, the most energy-efficient power plan is put into effect. Besides saving some energy, changing to such a power plan can also help reduce fan speed, as the CPU is less likely to spike randomly.
