Keeping your documents organized might mean it’s difficult to identify or access important files on the long run. However, you don’t necessarily have to rely on File Explorer for these operations, because there are other third-party alternatives like QuickFolder which let you access important directories from the tray area.

Note that in order to even install, let alone run the application, your computer needs to be equipped with .NET Framework 1.1, so it’s best to check even if running modern Windows iterations. On launch, the program minimizes to the tray area, and is the place it stays most of the times.

Just to quickly get you up and running, the application comes with a few preset folders, such as documents, the computer, or other stuff. Needless to say that you have complete freedom to create your own list of directories to access from the tray menu in the form of expandable menus, depending on how they’re organized.

The creation window is pretty intuitive, with a tree list of all created directories. Edit operations are either accessed from the context or edit menu. These allow you to add, remove, and move items on the list for proper management. It would have been useful to be able to simply drag folders around to new spots.

In order for a menu to expand inside the tray menu, you need to create child components. What’s more, files are not shown when navigating, so the last click is done on a folder which is brought up in File Explorer. To have it ready by the time you reach the desktop, you can add a shortcut inside the system Startup folder.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that QuickFolder is a cool enhancement you might want to keep around if you frequently access a set of directories. It takes little effort to set up directories of interest, providing a comfortable menu with all configured directories.
