Multitasking has slowly entered the vocabulary and habit of people who perform office jobs, so it is understandable that users sometimes have tens of documents, websites and windows open simultaneously, despite some of them being unrelated.

As such, the need for multiple desktops arose, and unlike systems running Windows 10, older OS users have had to make do with what was available in order to efficiently separate their work, and one option is relying on virtual desktops. Virtuoz is a lightweight utility that is capable of creating four different virtual desktops, allowing alternation between them with just a few keystrokes.

What is great about this program is the fact that it requires no installation in order to function properly, so users can go ahead and run the executable from the decompressed archive in order to get started.

Since Virtuoz is a standalone tool, this equates with the ability to store and run it from removable memory devices, namely USB sticks, on all compatible systems.

Once launched, the application retreats to the system tray area, where it can be accessed by right-clicking its icon to reveal a context menu, or by double-clicking it to display a small window with a drop-down menu.

From both locations, users can choose one of four desktops to work on. At the same time, Virtuoz features hotkey support, thus allowing users to switch between desktops by pressing on Alt + 1 / 2 / 3 / 4, which makes the operation quite swift and easy to remember.

However, users do not have the possibility of customizing these keys, nor can they add more virtual workspaces, aside from the default number. There is no way of viewing what windows or documents are open in each one, meaning users will either have to rely on memory or switch between them all until they find the window they need to work on.

In conclusion, Virtuoz is a useful piece of software that can assist users with over-crowded workspaces to put some order into their files, windows, and pages; it caters to the less demanding individuals, who just need a way of alternating between virtual desktops, without too much fuss or configurations.
