Windows allows quite a degree of flexibility when managing its elements. For instance, windows can be easily repositioned and resized through simple mouse gestures, but reaching the right target areas can be challenging on a crowded desktop. Luckily, specialized applications like WinXMove provide a bit more comfort when it comes to resizing windows.
Since the application doesn’t need to be installed to ensure functionality, you can see what it’s all about from the moment download is done. More than that, it’s possible to have it stored on a thumb drive, carried around, and even used on other computers, without affecting stability, because registry entries are not altered.
Don’t be scared if nothing shows up on the desktop when the application is launched, because it always resides in the tray area. In fact, there isn’t even a window to work with, except for a slim menu which is accessed through a right-click operation on the tray icon.
You might end up scratching your head for a while, because the application doesn’t really come with documentation, and the tray menu is rather counterintuitive. It only allows you to select the resize trigger button, which can either be the right or middle mouse button. However, a combination of buttons is used to resize a window, and you also need to hold down the Alt key alongside the mouse button.
The way in which resizing a window works is by holding down the two trigger buttons, and simply dragging the cursor from any section of the window. Note that it might not properly work with all types of windows. There’s no option to make the program run on startup for more comfort, but you can manually add a shortcut inside the system Startup folder.
All things considered, we can state that WinXMove might not come with a set of advanced features, but it does manage to provide a simple, comfortable alternative of resizing just about any window. A great deal of effort is saved, making desktop management a little less frustrating when working with a lot of windows.
