Windows To Go Upgrader

Windows To Go is a feature of Windows 8 and 8.1 Enterprise, also present in Windows 10 Enterprise and Education, which enables you to boot from a USB-based external drive, be it a hard disk or a flash drive. As it is only part of the Enterprise editions, Windows To Go might fail to upgrade to a newer edition of Windows directly, requiring a clean install instead.

But if you still own a Windows To Go device, you might want to upgrade your workspace without having to lose your settings,  account configuration and files. The Windows To Go Upgrader comes to the rescue, promising to check whether a WTC drive can be upgraded and perform the upgrade without too much hassle.

Attempting to keep things as simple as possible, Windows To Go Upgrader features a straightforward interface that only comprises two buttons. While no indication is offered to what the buttons do, hovering them with the mouse cursor does show a text that describes the button's role.

There are two things you can do with Windows To Go Upgrader. First, it allows you to check whether a Windows To Go drive can b upgraded or not to a newer Windows iteration (for instance, upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, or upgrading a lower build of Windows 10).

Provided VirtualBox is installed on your computer, you will be able to select the destination disk, which is created as a virtual machine, and the process will start.

Secondly, you can use Windows To Go Upgrader to perform the upgrade. In this case, the progress of the task is displayed alongside the estimated remaining time.
