AngryTasks

AngryTasks is a program that sort of emulates the Task Manager's role of displaying running tasks along with their memory usage and their child processes. Unlike the real thing, this program does not allow for program termination or other actions. It is not directly called a 'viewer' but that is the word that seems to fit AngryTasks. What is good for? Task Manager can be a scary dashboard if you are not accustomed to some system basics, so checking out what's running from the safety of such an application could be a reason to try it.

Blue light is not something you want to deal with, especially as a night owl. The dark-green background is very comfortable to look at, so it is easy to move it over the secondary desktop and let it run for hours.

All processes are listed in a tree-like environment that lets them fold and unfold, in order to view the child processes. Click the + or - button to fold them, or vice versa. Each task comes with its file size attached, marked with yellow font. The following set of numbers - which should be fluctuating - represents the total memory usage of said task. The list refreshes at 2-second intervals, which is a decent window for any tracking objective.

One aspect that feels redundant about AngryTasks is its toolbar. While it looks rather hefty, with more than six entries, all the 'tools' are hollow. For instance, you have the Edit tab that comes with actions like Undo, Redo, Cut, Delete, etc. How are they applicable? They are not, as the app is a simple viewer, nothing more.

In short, use AngryTasks only if you feel angry at the Task Manager, for whatever reason. The tool won't offer as complex data about running tasks as TM, but if your interest lies with memory usage in particular or simple task monitoring, sure it is worth a try.
