Keep an eye on network traffic from a desktop gadget, or tray icon, with configurable update interval, and extra ping, and traceroute tools #Network Monitor #Network Meter #Network Usage Graph #Network Usage #Monitor #Meter
Performing test operations on a PC might require you to keep an eye on resource usage. Network connection makes no exception, and there are various applications which can sit on your desktop and show usage in real time. In this regard, FreeMeter Revival can be configured to display incoming and outgoing packages through your Ethernet adapter.
For the application to run, you must check whether or not .NET Framework is installed on your computer. The setup process itself takes little time, so you’re able to check out the set of features before you realize. By default, a desktop gadget shows up, with an additional tray icon for an alternate view.
The window shows an updating graph of bandwidth usage, as well as numerical indicators. Updating interval is set to one second, but this can be adjusted to up to one tenth of a second. The graph adapts itself to the size of the main window, in case you want to take a closer look at values.
Several graph options can be tweaked in order to adjust visuals, units, and graph scale. Custom values can be added as scale, while the graphs section lets you change font options, colors, and more. Units can either be displayed in bits or bytes per second. To better blend in with your desktop, transparency level can be adjusted.
There are also a few useful extra tools to work with. One of them allows you to ping a specific host either by specifying web URL, or IP address. Related options can be used to set packet size, interval, and timeout, stopping only on manual trigger.
On the other hand, there’s the traceroute utility. Functioning in a similar manner, based on custom timeout, and maximum iterations value, the target is either a URL, or IP. For both tools, saving details is manually done through a copy and paste operation.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that FreeMeter Revival manages to live up to expectations, showing network usage in a configurable, intuitive environment. Update rate can be set to an almost real time value, while extra tools provide options to ping, and traceroute specific domains.
