View a log of the available storage space in Windows thanks to this simple and user-friendly application that requires no installation #Free space log #Free space history #Storage space #Storage #Space #Viewer
Unlike older Windows editions, Windows 10 creates a log of the free storage space on the computer for NTFS-formatted disks. This piece of information is available in the event log channel, namely in the “Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs/Operational” section. FreeSpaceLogView displays it in a user-friendly manner, allowing you to view the evolution of the storage space availability on your Windows 10 machine.
There is no need to go through an installation process, as FreeSpaceLogView is a setup-free application. You simply double-click on the main executable to run it.
You are greeted by a straightforward interface with simple options and a rather outdated appearance, which makes it pretty obvious that this application was created with functionality in mind, rather than looks.
The main window populates automatically with the free space log entries, all displayed in an organized table containing various details. To be more specific, for each log item, FreeSpaceLogView shows the log time, the name of the volume and its GUID, as well as the lowest and the highest values for the available disk space. The same information can be retrieved for an external folder, a remote computer or a shadow copy.
FreeSpaceLogView comes with a series of tools for manipulating the extracted data. You can copy a selection or the entire table to the clipboard, sort the entries and generate complete HTML reports for further use.
FreeSpaceLogView is far from being a complicated application and, frankly, it is only useful for a handful of people who are interested in finding out about the evolution of the free disk space. It can display logs and reports on the free storage space for the entire machine, a folder or a remote computer, which is a plus, alongside its ease of use and the reporting capabilities.
