MIMEView

MIMEView is a small-sized and portable app which reveals all installed plugins and file formats associated with MIME types (extends the format of email to support).

The tool features exporting functions and generally intuitive settings, making MIMEView accessible to all users, even the ones with no background in such utilities. 

As installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the program files in any directory on the hard disk and just click the EXE to run.

MIMEView can be stored on a mass storage drive and run on any PC fast and without previous installers.

Worth mentioning is that the Windows registry and Start menu are not updated with new entries, thus the app leaves no traces behind after removal.

The GUI is user-friendly, based on a basic window, where a list with all plugins and file extensions is immediately populated at startup.

Shown details include the extension, plugin name, version, program ID, full path and class ID, file dialog status, and open command for each content type.

Selected items can be copied to the Clipboard, while all details can be exported to TXT, HTM or HTML format for closer inspection and safekeeping.

It is also possible to activate or deactivate file dialogs for selected entries, as well as use a search function when dealing with large amounts of data to locate MIME items.

MIMEView runs on a low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the overall performance of the PC. Help documentation is available for less experienced users, along with command lines for advanced ones. We have not come across any problems in our evaluation, as the tool did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs.

To sum it up, MIMEView offers a straightforward means to get ahold of information revolving around MIME types, and it can be used by anyone.
