Everything running on your computer has at least a process running in the background. The more active, the higher computer resource usage. You can easily view and manage them in the Task Manager. It’s also possible to have them monitored to prevent computer issues with the help of ProcessGuard.

First of all, the application saves you the time and effort otherwise required to go through the steps of an installer, so you can see what it’s all about as soon as download is done. This makes it a perfect tool to carry around and use on other computers, without affecting stability of the target system, because registry entries are not altered.

When launched, the application minimizes to the tray area, adding two new icons. One of them is a real-time updating CPU monitor, with percentage shown in a tooltip on mouseover. The other provides quick access to the Windows Task Manager, which comes in handy for immediately terminating, or inspecting troublesome processes.

However, the application might not appeal to everyone, especially since there’s no attached main window, and all options need to be handled through an INI configuration file. It is brought up in your default text editor along with the Task Manager. Luckily, it clearly explains what and how you need to write for everything to properly function.

Monitoring a process is the core function, and you specify which one through the process name and PID, which are easily grabbed from Task Manager. You can set an alarm based on CPU usage, with options to set limit, time, message, action, whether to run a specific program, and confirmation requirement.

Bottom line is that poor management of processes can lead to disappointing computer performance. As such, ProcessGuardhelps you keep an eye on those processes relying on a heavy amount of system resources, and is able to alert you and take action when a specific limit is reached.
