If you’re trying to keep track of resource usage, it helps to have a simple, unobtrusive way do to it. While there are plenty of complex applications that let you monitor a wide range of parameters, a simple, tray-based utility can be more suitable in some cases.

ResMonTray is a tiny, open-source program that helps you keep an eye on CPU, memory and pagefile usage through a couple of system tray icons. It can display fairly detailed information when called up, while staying out of your way otherwise.

This application is a good choice for users who need a quick way to monitor resource usage. Once downloaded, you don’t need to configure anything, and the utility can be launched from any location without having to be installed beforehand.

The information is displayed via two system tray icons. One shows RAM, CPU and pagefile usage, while the other lists CPU load for all available cores. Either of these icons can be disabled.

ResMonTray displays some basic information on clicking the tray icons or on mouseover, and you can right-click them to view all the available details. Aside from showing the raw data, the application also generates a real-time graph.

From the tray menu, you can disable either of the two icons, as well as change the refresh interval, which, by default, is set to one second.

Some users will probably feel that the gathered data is not displayed in the most intuitive manner, as it can be difficult to get the information you need at a glance.

Nevertheless, ResMonTray is still a great choice for users who need a simple way to monitor resource usage, in no small part because it is so easy to deploy and configure.
