peinfo

Sometimes the simplest of apps are the most useful and that is also the case with peinfo, a lightweight application that can retrieve information about portable executable files. The application provides support not just for EXE files, but also for the DLL and SYS file formats.

It is worth mentioning that peinfo does not come with a standard GUI, as you can only run it from the Windows console. All you must do is enter its location and use the input file path as a parameter.

Peinfo reads information about the portable executable in question, starting with the file code signing details and continuing with the product and the file version numbers.

The software name, its size in bytes, the system architecture it was built for all all there, displayed in the list. Moreover, you can read details about the image base, the sub system and see the application’s checksum, which allows you to verify its integrity.

Additional information about the operating system version, the image version and the subsystem version are shown, along with the linker version and the link date. If available, the PDB signature, age, file and the symbol URL are also revealed.   Saving or exporting the data retrieved by peinfo is not possible. However, you can easily copy and paste all the details directly from the console window.
