Key Remapper

Both the keyboard and the mouse come with a set of default functions for their buttons and keys. While there are also well-known, useful hotkeys for certain actions in Windows, you might also fancy creating your own custom key combinations for different actions. Key Remapper is a tool that can remap both keyboard keys and mouse buttons, allowing you to create new shortcuts for actions you carry out often.

The application features a GUI with a rather outdated look. On the bright side, all the options are one-click away and usage is overall simple. All the mapped hotkeys are displayed in the lower side panel.

You can use Key Remapper to change the default functions of keyboard keys or mouse buttons. There is a list that allows you to select the key to remap, along with a list of modifier keys (such as CTRL, ALT, SHIFT or the Win key) to choose. Alternatively, Key Remapper can also modify the default functions of all the mouse buttons: the left one, the right one or the middle one, the mouse wheel, mouse moves or wheel tilt.

With Key Remapper, you can remap the selected key or button however you want. In other words, the chosen key combination can be assigned another default action. Keys ca be remapped with another key, with the mouse button, a text or the contents of a text file. This means that you can paste a custom text or the contents of a text file by pressing a specific key combination or, why not, use a key to simulate a mouse click.

Moreover, you can configure Windows to execute a media-related command (volume up and down, for instance), launch a web browser or another application, or simply execute a system command or run a system function, such as shutting down or hibernating the PC.

Key Remapper allows you to customize key combinations and create shortcuts for actions that you perform frequently to enhance your productivity and improve your workflow. While it could use some extra work on its looks, ease of use and the way options are displayed, the application carries out its job successfully and helps you remap both keys and mouse buttons.
