Auto Power Plan

While certain power-related parameters can be changed by Windows automatically depending on whether your device is currently charging or not, some users may prefer to switch between two separate power plans.

Auto Power Plan is an open-source application that checks if your computer is running on battery periodically and switches to the preferred power plan.

The installation process is as simple as you can expect, and the application can even be added to the startup list automatically. It can be minimized to the system tray, so it is very unobtrusive.

In order to configure the utility, you need only click the system tray icon. You can select which of the available power plans should be used when the computer is plugged in or running on battery, as well as set the update interval.

It has to be noted that only the three Windows power plans are available, which means that other plans created by the user cannot be selected, which is less than ideal.

Of course, you can just customize the default power plans if you want to change various parameters, but some users may have preferred to select a new plan created by themselves, which is not possible.

As far as the GUI is concerned, there really isn’t much to say. Every setting can be accessed easily from the main window, which sports a basic visual design, and the program also lets you know which power source is currently being used.

Auto Power Plan is a useful tool for those who wish to switch between two power plans automatically when their laptop is plugged in or running in battery mode. It lacks support for user-created power plans, but it is very simple to use.
