You probably know by now that the computer screen causes eyestrain. Yet not very often do you follow your parents’ advice and just get off the computer to rest your eyes; if anything, you’re on the computer more often than ever, because our lives have become so dependent on technology.

Still, technology can also help us protect our eyes from the damage done by the powerful monitors. There are already many apps that can help us adjust the screen brightness accordingly, so today we’re going to take a look at one called EasyEyes.

The app requires no installation; run it, and you can start adjusting brightness and color temperature right away. Similarly to most programs of its kind, EasyEyes is lightweight and comes with a minimalistic interface. However, the developers have included a section where they advise you how to best use the app, but also provide a few color temperature examples.

This is useful because not everyone is familiar with the notion. For example, it may seem counterintuitive to learn that the lower the color temperature, the "warmer" the colors will seem. When using EasyEyes you learn that 5500K is the temperature of daylight around noon, while 1500K is that of a candle flame.

With EasyEyes you can schedule the dimming of the monitor’s brightness and color temperature – a process that happens gradually and seamlessly. There is even a set of recommended values included, which the app will use to create a simple schedule. After you create a schedule that works best for you, simply minimize the EasyEyes to the system tray. Don’t forget to also check “Load on startup” so that the program’s schedule continues each day.

While EasyEyes is not a very advanced app, it does its job well, and it can help you reduce your eyestrain and even sleep better.
