Hardware can sometimes fail, especially after intensive and long-term use. Despite manufacturers’ claims that mice are rated for millions of clicks, multiple user- or factory-related elements can change that statistic, ultimately being translated into mice not registering inputs or tracking errors.
In order to find out whether you are truly experiencing those hardware issues, a cursor testing program such as CursorDistance can help you track the input and speed of your mouse to determine if you need a new peripheral or not.
The program is portable in nature, making it perfect for on-the-go setups and quick launching, without having to deal with installation wizards. Running it will display a dark, full-screen window that highlights the cursor inside a large square pixel, for the user to track its movements for measuring accuracy.
For precise statistics, the application also measures the pixels traveled and the time elapsed since the cursor tracking began. This is useful for situations in which the mouse stops functioning after a certain amount of time, giving users an idea of where to start in their quest of troubleshooting the issue.
In case the hardware buttons for increasing or decreasing the dots per linear inch (DPI) setting are malfunctioning, the average and current speed of the cursor is also measured in pixels to track exact changes in the mouse sensitivity.
The application can detect the left and right buttons of the mouse and their double-click inputs, making it easier for the user to find out whether or not they have stopped working properly, or they register multiple times after pressing and letting go of the button in question.
If you feel that your mouse has tracking issues, or its clicks do not seem to register, CursorDistance can give you a helping hand in determining whether you need to start shopping for a new peripheral to add to your current setup.
