EightyOne

EightyOne is an open-source emulator for ZX computers manufactured by Sinclair Research in the 80s. The application targets ZX80 and ZX8 machines primarily, but it can also emulate other ZX spectrum models, such as 16k /48k spectrum, Spectrum+ or Spectrum 128.

There is no need to install it, as the application is portable. Just double-click on the main executable file to launch it.

The main window displays the number of scan lines, the current FPS rate and the machine type. You can easily open a new tape and save a snapshot. Keep in mind that a few examples are available in the downloaded archive, so that you can have a starting point when using the application.

ZX Spectrum models come with a few options that allow you to control the emulator. As such, you are free to change the size of the border, the zoom level, or inverse the video, if that is what you wish.

A reset of the soft or the hard and an emulation pause are options available in the “Control” menu. You can also change display settings and the image resolution, modify the source and the destination tapes.

A few additional tools enable you to view live memory consumption, choose the printer output and the WAV loader.

It is worth mentioning that the functionality of EightyOne can be enriched using various add-on interfaces.
