Quickly find out the target of a shortcut file (.lnk format) through the right-click menu to open its location in Windows Explorer #Open folder #Target folder #Source folder #Locate #Shortcut #Target
Find Target is a simple application designed to help users locate the target file of a shortcut, namely a file with the .lnk format, through the right-click menu. This shortcut may exist anywhere on the computer, typically the desktop. It also works with removable hard drives and network locations.
This tool comes in handy if the operating system doesn't have a built-in feature for locating the location of a shortcut file, such as the "Open file location" entry in the context menu. Another way for learning the target is from the "Properties" dialog of the shortcut.
Setting up this lightweight software utility is a speedy task that doesn't require special attention, since there are no unfamiliar wizard steps involved. However, it requires the Visual Basic 6 Runtime environment installed to be able to work properly.
No message dialog pops up on the screen at the end of installation, and no desktop shortcuts are created by the application. Instead, it gets integrated into the right-click menu of .lnk files in Windows Explorer.
By clicking on the "Find target..." entry in the context menu, the utility triggers the operating system to open the location of the corresponding file in the file navigator.
