A console application that receives a folder of MSU files as the input parameter and runs the WUSA system application silently to deploy the update packages #Deploy MSU #MSU installer #Batch deploy #Deploy #Installer #MSU
Update packages in Windows have the MSU file extension, which refers to the Windows Update Standalone Installer. This installer makes use of the Update Agent API to deploy update packages and get you the latest Windows iterations.
The application responsible for running the Windows Update Standalone Installer is the wusa.exe file in the System32 folder. Although you can run wusa.exe manually with specific parameters in the command console, an application such as MSUey saves you the trouble of forwarding all the parameters required to run the installer in silent mode, without your interaction.
MSUey is also a console application so it will only run via the command prompt. There is no help option as a parameter, but you can take a look in the readme file to understand how the application works.
In short, all you have to do to deploy a folder with multiple MSU files is to pass the complete path of that directory as a parameter to the MSUey application in the command console. Once you do so, MSUey forwards your request to the wusa.exe system app for each of the MSU update packages, deploying them one by one. A log file is automatically generated to store information about all the actions that have taken place. However, please note that this log file does not reveal whether the installation of the MSU packages has been successful.
