From getting random crashes and blur or black screen to driver errors and the impossibility to run various applications you commonly use there are numerous signs indicating that you are dealing with system corruption.

Repair is a lightweight piece of software designed to help you fix corrupted Windows installation using the SFC and DISM system functions.

While the tool does not require installation, you should run it as Administrator so that it can access and modify system files. The program comes with a standard Windows UI where you can check out the controls and functions as well as a Command Prompt where the commands and their outputs are run.

As indicated in the Help section of the application, it is highly recommended that you do not close any command prompt window before the functions selected are complete. This way, you can avoid false results or get more corrupted system files that could render your Windows unusable.

The idea behind the application is to find corrupted files that are responsible for the errors and afterwards, attempt to download and install the equivalent of this data. Depending on the files, the download can begin before or after the Scannow command is launched.

You have the possibility to use DISM.EXE, SFC.EXE or both of them at the same time. Even though you may be prompted to insert the Windows CD, it is a good idea to allow the download as you can grab the latest versions of those files.

Then again, you should bear in mind that if you decide to verify the integrity of the system files using both functions, then you should be prepared to wait for at least one hour until the detection, fixing and restoration are fully complete.

In the eventuality that re-installing Windows is not an option due to various reasons, but you need to be able to run various utilities or stop getting BSOD and errors, then perhaps you can consider giving Repair a try.
