Surface IT Toolkit

With Surface IT Toolkit, Microsoft created a modern-looking dashboard for managing and configuring Surface devices. The toolkit bundles tools dedicated to settings management, health monitoring and device troubleshooting, all in a single package compatible with multiple Surface devices.

Upon launch, you will have to take the time to go through a four-step configuration before using the application. Once you agree to the license terms, you get to manually select the devices to manage with Surface IT Toolkit.

There are many device families and types of supported devices, you only need to select the ones you manage in your organization. Whether it is a Surface Pro, a Surface Laptop, Surface Studio or Surface Go, Hub or Book, you can add it to your list of devices in Surface IT Toolkit.

The next step is to select telemetry-related options and, finally, to review your choices and complete the app configuration.

All the managed devices are shown in the main window, along with the tasks you can carry out using Surface IT Toolkit.

The Data Eraser can assist you in building a USB key to wipe data from a Surface device, then generate a certificate of sanitization. In other words, it allows you to prepare a device for repair, recycling or retirement.

Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM) can be applied to Surface devices using the UEFI configurator, which then allows the management of UEFI settings. The Surface IT Toolkit allows PowerShell scripts to create configuration packages easier.  

Another function available in Surface IT Toolkit is creating recovery images for Surface devices to restore them to the factory state.

With a built-in UEFI configurator, a data eraser and image recovery tools, the Surface IT Toolkit brings to the table a collection of tools that are essential for managing Surface devices. Moreover, it grants one-click access to additional configuration and support tools, making sure you always get the latest version available.
