In most cases, it’s recommended that you update your apps and system to the latest available version. Apart from bug fixing and some potentially new features being introduced, newer versions should theoretically let you get the most of a program’s functions at the current moment, but this may vary. It's not a catch-all, as there are cases where staying on an earlier version is better.

Nevertheless, keeping up to date with your updates is among the ebbs and flows of using a system these days. UpdateHub is a software solution that can help simplify this process: it scans the installed apps on your computer, then notifies you whenever a new version is out.

At its base, the concept is simple: by giving users a general interface where they track updates for all their installed programs, they would be more inclined to download the latest versions. The execution of such a concept is perhaps even more important, and UpdateHub does well to help users manage their updates in a very convenient, frustration-free way.

The program will initially have to analyze your installed apps upon first boot-up. It’s a process that took no more than a few seconds in my case, and I reckon I was fortunate enough to not have too much to update. In fact, there was only one thing to update in my case: the .NET SDK I had installed. Anything relevant about an update, such as release notes, will be presented when available.

Once an update has been found, users will be able to download and install it directly through the interface. You may have to resort to a manual install when a program refuses to cooperate, however.

Microsoft Store is a bit fickle, and personally I’m not a big fan of it. The options are a bit limited in that regard, mainly owing to the Store’s shenanigans: you can either update all apps, or view all updates via the Microsoft Store app.

Windows Updates can also be tracked. Here it’s worth noting that drivers will also be included, but you can ignore them if you want.

If anything goes awry, a Rollback function is provided to help you revert to the previously installed version.

UpdateHub succeeds in making it very easy to track and download the latest versions for your installed programs. The app looks and feels modern, and as such, I would recommend it to anyone looking to be more on top of their updates.
