PerfMonitor Portable

PerfMonitor Portable is a lightweight piece of software designed to help you monitor the overall performance of your CPU. Consequentially, it can help you spot various bottlenecks before they become more complex problems.

Since the tool is portable, the setup entails decompressing the archive in any desired location on your hard drive. The application is designed to recognize the main processor and it displays data about the temperature, usage and L2 hit ration upon launch.

In case you have multiple CPU integrated, then you will be happy to learn that you can switch between the processors from the Selection menu. Moreover, you can create and save a configuration of parameters that you can load and change whenever you are undergoing testing.

Among the values that you can track via the program, you can count package temperature, package power, IA cores power, uncore power, cycles per instructions, instructions per Watt, stalled cycles ratio or Branch hit ratio, just to name a few.

Regardless of the counters you select, they are shown neatly in a clean and intuitive interface. In fact, you can preview the topology of the CPU and have a graph displayed for each core included so that you can figure out whether one of them is carrying too much of processing load.

While the graphs are easy to understand, it would have been nice if the tool enabled you to use color codes for them. It would be easier for less technical users to figure out if the usage or temperature is within the standards or they exceed the acceptable values.
