Even if you are not using Microsoft Edge, sometimes you may notice that some web links are opened via the embedded browser. The reason for this is that Microsoft prefers to lock certain links and hence, you end up with various Documentation, Help or websites opening up in Edge, even though you have another default browser.

GoAwayEdge is a tiny utility designed to address this issue as it can help redirect all Edge calls to the browser of your choice.

Although it seems like that, the utility is not portable as it needs to save the settings modifications you need somewhere, usually in the Program Files folder. Functionality-wise, the app is simple and straightforward as all you need to do is select the problematic Edge channel, usually the stable version, and the favorite search engine.

It is important to note that the developer highlights the fact that for the time being, only the search terms will be redirected to the selected browser. Hopefully, this can be enhanced in the future updates so that it includes other calls that get redirected into Edge.

Even since the launch of Windows 11, where the issue is persistent, Microsoft allowed users to change the default browser directly from the Settings. Then again, this doesn’t seem to work for all users and systems.

In case you change your mind or the program simply doesn’t redirect the Edge calls due to various operating system settings, then you can uninstall it just as easily. To uninstall, launch the application and access the Uninstall feature to remove it.
