PersistentWindows is a tiny utility designed to address a common issue in Windows 7 to 10, namely that the windows are moved and resized on display power cycle if the configuration features a multiple display. The application works with both local and remote desktop configuration.

As the name suggests, the role of the application is to keep track of the position of the windows and taskbar in real time so that it can automatically restore the layout to the last matching monitor setup. The tool does not have an interface and everything can be done via a small menu located in the System Tray. On launch the app pops a splash window that merely indicates the program started successfully.

According to the developer, the tool allows the saving of layout desktop captures on the local drive in a light DB format. Users can easily restore closed windows after reboot as well. At the same time, the tool allows you to take snapshots in memory with a maximum 36 for each configuration, where the order is preserved. The resulting snapshots can also be used as alternatives to virtual desktops in Windows 10.

Take note that the app includes a few known issues, such as that certain apps cannot simply be launched when restored from disk, while other tools need Administrator to run.
