A smaller alternative to Windows Task Manager that displays a list of all the running processes, enabling you to terminate any process with just a click #Process list #Task manager #Terminate process #Terminate #Kill #Process
WTF is a small software application designed specifically as a replacement for Windows Task Manager. It is able to list all running processes and terminate the selected one.
After a fast installation where you only need to press a few ‘Next’ buttons in order to complete the process, you are welcomed by a plain GUI. There’s no support for a help manual but that’s the whole point of this tool: that you do not need to consult or read one because the dedicated parameters are highly intuitive.
WTF automatically detects and reveals all utilities installed on your computer. Unlike your built-in Windows Task Manager that is able to categorize the items in applications, background processes, and services, this tool simply lists all entries in the main panel.
You are not offered detailed information about each process, as you can view only the name. You cannot resize the main window to make WTF display more processes in the GUI but you can scroll throughout the entire list.
WTF gives you the possibility to terminate the selected process using a predefined hotkey (it cannot be reassigned). In case you are not sure about a program, you can trigger an online search via your default web browser.
What’s more, you are offered the freedom to copy the file path of a selected process to the clipboard so you can quickly paste it in other utilities, print the list with running processes, as well as refresh the information displayed in the GUI with a single click.
Tests have shown that WTF carries out a task quickly. It is not a resource hog so you can keep it running in the background without having to worry that it eats up CPU and memory resources.
All things considered, WTF is nothing more than a basic task manager that has to offer limited features. It is suitable especially for beginners who do not want to waste time analyzing complex reports about processes. However, professionals may be quite disappointed by the fact that WTF does not let you get details about the CPU, memory, disk, and network usage, access real-time performance graphs, and manage startup items, just to name a few advanced options.
