Not only is the taskbar in Windows 11 very different from the previous versions of the operating system, but it is also one of the first things you will notice when launching the OS for the first time. While it is true that you can use the Settings to remove some items and align them, some people would like more.

WinTaskbarEditor is a lightweight utility that enables you to make further modifications to the taskbar and hence, make it more suitable for how you are using the computer.

The tool is available as installer and a portable archive, so simply use the latter if you want minimum impact on your system. Once launched, you are greeted by a single-window interface where the modus operandi of the tool is explained.

The program is as simple as it gets and you can get started by choosing a position and/or size for your taskbar. Afterwards kill and restart explorer so that the changes take effect. While the app includes a button to go back on the size modifications, the same does not apply for the position, which comes with a single option for now, top.

Since the tool modifies the registry keys, then you are probably worried that you may have to reinstall Windows to revert the changes. Luckily, the developer provides a quick guide on how to revert the changes in the GUI. As indicated there, navigate to the corresponding registry key, make the changes, restart the explorer and everything should be back to the default.
