XPS (acronym for XML Paper Specification) is the file extension created by Microsoft in order to define the layout, appearance and printing details of any document.
Despite its resemblance with PDF format, XPS is based on XML formatting rather than the PostScript language.
In order to create XPS files, users simply need to print their documents using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer installed on their computer (if the OS is Vista or Windows 7).
