ICNS is the standard file extension used for representing icons on Mac OS X platforms. As opposed to Windows icons, ICNS files are typically referenced by the programs at startup, so that they cannot be modified or replaced.
Just like the Windows ICO, ICNS contains icons of multiple file sizes, including 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 128x128, 256x256 and 512x512 pixels.
When Windows users want to access ICNS files, they will need to find a compatible graphic viewer.
