ICNS is the default file format used for representing icons on Mac OS X platforms. Unlike the Windows icons, ICNS files are referenced by the programs at startup, therefore they cannot be modified or replaced.
Similar to Windows icons, ICNS supports several file sizes, such as 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 128x128, 256x256 and 512x512 pixels.
In order to be able to access ICNS files on Windows platforms, users will require specialized graphic viewers.
