New in Artec Studio 16.0.8.2 (Apr 15, 2022)

  • New scan-to-CAD features for quality inspection:
  • Streamline your pre-production, inline, and final inspections with a new array of features that make it that much easier and faster to achieve optimal variances.
  • Seamless Control X integration for easy inspections:
  • Now, there’s no need to leave Artec Studio when it's time to inspect your components or products. By having a continuous, uninterrupted scan-to-inspection workflow, you'll accomplish your project goals sooner, whether you're on the assembly line, the loading dock, or anywhere else.
  • Peerless Control X inspections at your fingertips:
  • After you finish your scan, simply select the mesh you'd like to inspect on the workspace panel and click ‘Inspect in CX’ in the Artec Studio interface. You'll then have a choice of which Control X inspection template to use. From there, your report will be generated behind the scenes, and without delay.
  • Batch inspection reports:
  • What about when your inspection workflow includes a batch or production run of parts or objects? Artec Studio has you covered. Just select however many meshes you'd like to inspect, choose the appropriate Control X inspection template, and then click Go. Your reports will be ready to review in the seconds to come.
  • Up to 8x faster mesh-to-CAD alignment for quality inspection:
  • One of the foundations of rock solid scan-to-CAD inspections is proper alignment. Now, with just one click, Artec Studio faultlessly aligns your mesh with other meshes or reference CAD models up to 8x faster than before. By quickening this step, you’ll shave precious time off your QI workflow, without any loss of quality.
  • Accelerated surface distance mapping:
  • After aligning your meshes with CAD models or other meshes, inspecting them via surface distance mapping is now that much faster, with measurement calculations on more complex CAD models clocking in at up to 70% quicker than in the previous release.
  • Complementary CAD features for quality inspection:
  • Over time, as your inspection demands rise for heightened accuracy, throughput, and speed, the capabilities of your chosen technologies should follow suit. And Artec Studio 16's new supportive scan-to-CAD features do just that.
  • Veraciously accurate quality assurance & inspections:
  • Perfectly aligned CAD primitives are now at your fingertips, giving your quality inspection workflow the metrological accuracy it calls for, to make micron-precise comparisons between whatever parts or other objects you scan and their respective CAD reference models.
  • Rigorous constraints, from selection to refitting:
  • Now you have the ability to force constraints between primitives, with your choice of parallel, perpendicular, concentric, etc., further optimizing your quality inspection results. To do this, simply select two primitives that you’ve just fitted, and then select the desired constraint, based on their actual positions on the scanned object.
  • Impeccable measurements & superior plane functionality for on-target inspections:
  • When it comes to your inspection workflow, superior accuracy and feature sets should never be at the expense of speed. Not having to sacrifice in either respect means you can look forward to outstanding results for every single inspection.
  • Precise point-to-plane measurement:
  • Artec Studio has made it considerably easier for you to achieve target product quality standards by giving you the ability to quickly measure perpendicular distances from points to planes, making it a snap to instantly calculate the precise thicknesses of selected areas or accurately define the various external dimensions of an engineering item you're focused on.
  • Advanced fitting algorithms, more precise section positioning:
  • And cross sections can be positioned all the more precisely, by using constructed/fitted planes as a baseline and then offsetting along a normal direction, or even first rotating and then offsetting, thus allowing you to calculate a cross section in any place you choose.
  • New scan-to-CAD features for reverse engineering:
  • When you don't have a CAD model for a legacy or existing part, or need to create a new model from scratch, there's nothing better than 3D scanning paired with the latest in scan-to-CAD tools. And with Artec Studio 16, your reverse engineering workflow will be more precise than ever.
  • New CAD primitives and other tools for reverse engineering:
  • Once you've scanned a part or assembly and are ready to turn that scan into a CAD model, it's those little extras in the software that truly make the difference. In Artec Studio 16, you'll find a collection of highly useful tools that equip you to accomplish your RE projects with faultless results, every time.
  • Tailored freeform primitives for reverse engineering:
  • This tool makes it effortless to start reverse engineering complex parts by giving you the power to make custom-fitting primitives for curvilinear surfaces. Just designate the geometry you wish to fit with a freeform primitive via either the 3D brush or the new Segment brush. You can even customize the new primitive by adjusting its padding, points count, and spline order.
  • Reverse engineer torus shapes:
  • In addition to the new freeform primitive, there's now another super useful shape on the menu: torus. The torus can be used for reverse engineering myriad ring-shaped objects in industries as diverse as automotive to aerospace and beyond, whether it’s tires, gaskets, o-rings, life preservers, or something else.
  • A reverse engineering must-have: ultraprecise constraints:
  • Metrologically aligned primitives are what every reverse engineering project needs before an accurate CAD model can be built to spec. Now you can do this within Artec Studio. After fitting primitives to your scan, it's time to constrain them, depending on their known spatial positions. With a selection of parallel, perpendicular, concentric, angular, or coaxial constraints, they'll snap into place and be ready for export to CAD.
  • A selection tool that thinks ahead: the Segment brush:
  • When you're reverse engineering parts and other objects, quickly selecting all the right surfaces for fitting primitives is now as easy as ABC. The Segment brush works by analyzing the full surface, not just where you clicked, computing all its characteristics to determine and select its exact shape, without the need for selecting everything by hand.
  • Jumpstart your RE workflow in no time:
  • After that, with one click, your new patch will be fitted and ready for export straight to CAD, where you'll use it as a reference tool for creating your new 3D model.
  • Direct export to SOLIDWORKS:
  • On top of all that, now you can export all your primitives straight to SOLIDWORKS even if you don't have the Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS plugin.
  • CAD-perfect cutting planes & scale to bounding box for reverse engineering:
  • It goes without saying that most professional reverse engineering design workflows make use of representative cross sections for turning scan data into CAD models. This just became one step easier. And with the new ability to scale your planes to the bounding box, comprehensive cutting planes are only a click away.
  • Cutting planes right where you need them:
  • Artec Studio 16 now lets you make cutting planes to create sections where primitive planes are already in place. On top of that, you can also offset cutting sections from existing planes, via translation functionality.
  • An astoundingly accurate head start for your RE workflow:
  • Once you've constrained these planes and other primitives in accordance with their specific locations relative to one another, they're easily exported to CAD, where they'll be used as reference elements to flawlessly forge your new 3D model to life.
  • Scale to bounding box:
  • Now you can optimize how the cutting plane works. With Scale to bounding box turned on, the resulting plane will be infinite, creating a section that cuts through the entire object from front to back. With this option turned off, only the plane within its own visible borders will be used to create a section.
  • AI-powered HD Mode improvements:
  • Our neural network-based HD Mode for Eva and Leo is now even smarter, faster, and sharper.
  • Get HD data almost 2x faster:
  • You can now reconstruct Eva and Leo HD projects at almost double the speed. As a result, you can significantly accelerate your processing workflow, and do so much more in far less time.
  • HD reconstruction for Eva, when and where you want:
  • Scanning with Eva in HD is now even easier as you no longer have to reconstruct your scan data right away. Store raw HD data directly in your project and choose when and where to process it: right after scanning, or at a later time. You can even take your work to a different and more powerful computer if necessary!
  • Multiple reconstruction for optimal results:
  • When working with HD scan data captured with either Eva or Leo, you now can try out different settings with multiple reconstructions to find what works best for you in terms of resolution and project size – plus, you can do this anytime, not only on import, and as many times as you’d like. Expect sharper results and a quicker process to get the exact data you need.
  • Sharper than ever:
  • Our new and improved AI-powered HD Mode for Eva and Leo provides you with consistently unbeatable results. This major boost allows you to create the sharpest and most detail-rich 3D scans in ultra-high resolution, leaving no detail behind.
  • Work faster with Leo HD projects, now 20% smaller:
  • HD projects are now almost 20% smaller in size! You can now process your HD data much faster, while storing and transferring less data. The best part? Your projects are compressed as you work without any interruption or data loss.
  • High-definition data on SD cards for Leo:
  • The new encrypted file format allows you to store high-def data from Leo on your SD card. You no longer have to spend time importing projects from Leo whenever you change HD settings. With HD raw data conveniently saved on your SD card, you’ve got faster access to the data you need, when and where you need it. You can now conveniently export all your HD projects to an SD card, then import them to Artec Studio – without needing to stay connected to Leo
  • Create the ideal full 3D model for CGI and more:
  • All the way from mesh to texture, you can now create accurate, high-resolution, and picture-perfect 3D models ready for CGI, VR/AR, and animation, all in one place.
  • Combine scan data with photogrammetry data in Artec Studio for photorealistic texture:
  • Yes, you read that right! With our brand new photogrammetry tool in AS16, you have the option to create high-quality texture for data captured with Leo, Eva, Micro, and Space Spider. Take photos around the object with your camera or smartphone like you would with third-party photogrammetry software, and upload directly to Artec Studio. You can then easily build and map texture onto the mesh captured with your scanner. Without relying on external tools, you can do it all in one place, making it that much faster and far more convenient than any other 3D scanning and photogrammetry workflow.
  • Easily match the scale of one mesh to another:
  • If your workflow ever requires the combination of 3D scanning and photogrammetry, this new feature is made for you. When you capture an object with photogrammetry, its real dimensions in 3D are unknown without the use of additional tools (targets, a scale bar, or a tape measure). The new AS16 mesh alignment by scale algorithm allows you to match the arbitrary scale of a model created with photogrammetry to the real scale of a model captured by an Artec scanner, directly in Artec Studio. Just check a box to align by three points as you normally would, and the object resizes itself right before your eyes.
  • Clear visualization for Ray, improved scene rendering for all:
  • The new ‘Transparent’ mode allows visualization of the mesh’s backface using data captured from any Artec 3D scanner and processed in AS16. Previously, the back-facing surface of a scanned object or scene would be presented in black by default, making the front-facing area impossible to see while processing. Now, you can clearly see and explore the entire model without distraction, and without worrying about unnecessary objects obstructing your view – look at the back-facing surface if you need it, or glance right through it if you don't. Particularly useful when using Artec Ray to scan large areas such as room interiors and other expansive facilities with lots of details throughout.
  • View, share, and collaborate with Artec Cloud:
  • 3D scanning projects can now be uploaded to, or created on, Artec Cloud: Our brand-new, browser-based platform for viewing, collaborating on, and processing your 3D projects. Not only can you access and process data conveniently in the Cloud and export projects back from the Cloud to your desktop, you can easily share your work with peers, receive real time feedback, conduct interactive training sessions, and easily work on your projects from your browser, independently or with a team, from wherever you are.
  • Speed & ease of use:
  • With each release of Artec Studio, we strive to make your workflow faster and better than ever before. In AS16, we take it to the next level so you can get the data you need in no time.
  • 10x faster project loading for an accelerated workflow:
  • Thanks to the new software structure, your projects will now load at least 10x faster – that’s less than 10 seconds for your average project. You no longer need to wait till the scans fully load either. Start working with your data right away!
  • Your work is automatically saved for you:
  • All the changes you make are now automatically saved while you work. Not only will you save time and never have to save manually again, your work is kept safe as your project is continuously updated in the background. Undo any saved adjustments with quick and easy keyboard shortcuts.
  • Essential data automatically loaded with Smart RAM Optimizer:
  • Whenever you are working with large datasets, you now no longer need to worry about unloading and loading the necessary scan data, or wonder if you have enough RAM to handle it. Artec Studio will automatically unload the data you're not using and load only the parts you need, making your workflow faster, smoother, and easier.
  • More flexibility with individual scan Global Registration:
  • The new enhanced feature makes it easier, faster, and much more convenient to work with individual scans. You can now run Global Registration for separate scans automatically in one click instead of treating each scan one by one. Or, run Global Registration on scans separately, and then together – all in just one click. This new mode cuts out several manual steps, saving you lots of time, and is especially useful for your larger projects or scans with poor features.
  • The finer details for an overall upgrade:
  • Besides the key features listed above, when working in AS16, you’ll discover lots of new ‘quality of life’ additions that improve your overall workflow in various ways. For example, Object Highlight which lets you highlight an object in render when you hover over it with your cursor, improved tracking algorithms to decrease error accumulation over distance and when scanning in loops, being able to view in-progress algorithm settings, improved simplification with texture for fast mesh simplification, and a ‘bigger than object’ cross section by default.
  • View menu navigation:
  • Easily access the features and functions you need in a neatly structured and organized menu. Access what you want when you need it, and keep it tucked away when you don’t.
