New in CARIS Easy View 4.4.1 (Nov 16, 2017)

  • 3D view improvements:
  • There is improved visualization and performance when working with point clouds in the 3D view. In particular, points can now be visualized with new geometry styles, such as 'oriented splats', that allow the points to be experienced as a seamless and shaded surface model.**
  • As well, the user has new options to go into a Pan Control mode to reposition data in the 3D view. This and other modes are available in the 3D section of the Options settings.
  • The ability to perform spatial analysis while in the 3D view has also been enhanced. Specifically, points from coverage data can now be interrogated in the 3D view by using the same query capability previously only available in 2D views.
  • Variable resolution surface support:
  • It is now possible to open and interact with variable resolution surfaces, such as those created in CARIS HIPS and SIPS and CARIS BASE Editor. These coverages address the challenges with effectively visualizing areas with a wide range of elevation values. It had been particularly difficult to create a single continuous surface with an optimal resolution covering these areas - a single resolution often over- or under-represents the achievable resolution from the source data. CARIS' variable resolution technology allows using a single surface product from widely disparate data, greatly simplifying user workflows and file management.
  • Updated documentation delivery:
  • HTML help is now available online which enables faster updating of the help content that supports CARIS products. Users in work environments that do not have access to online help have the ability to deploy help files locally.
  • The User Guides command now launches a PDF Portfolio file. This differs from previous releases in that this file is used to both access and store all documents for the application. The individual documents can now be previewed, opened, extracted, searched, printed, etc. all from within the Portfolio. It is recommended to use Adobe Reader to view these files.
  • Support for 32-bit operating systems to be discontinued:
  • Teledyne CARIS will discontinue the distribution of the 32-bit option of the CARIS Easy View releases after the 4.4.x series. Only 64-bit installations will be provided which will be compatible with Windows 64-bit operating systems. It will be necessary for all users to upgrade to a 64-bit operating system for the releases beyond version 4.4.0 and any 4.4.x updates.

New in CARIS Easy View 4.1.11 (Aug 11, 2015)

  • Expanded support for commonly used geospatial data formats (e.g. BAG, GeoTIFF, S-57) and web services (WMS, WCS, WMTS, WTMS).
  • Upgraded support for non-proprietary BAG format to version 1.5.2, which is the latest
  • version provided by the Open Navigation Surface Working Group.
  • Support for the ECW file format has been re-enabled, provided that the necessary plugin is installed. Contact CARIS Customer Services for more information.
  • Please be advised that support for exporting raster surfaces to 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF format has been removed. Support for exporting images to TIFF and Georeferenced TIFF remains. We apologize for the inconvenience.

New in CARIS Easy View 4.0.0 Build 332626 (Dec 17, 2012)

  • Easy View is now available for download as 32 and 64 applications:
  • Users with 64 bit operating systems will now be able to install a 64 bit version of the Easy View application. This allows the application to take access all the RAM on a system; with 32 bit applications access is limited to 3 GB of available RAM.
  • Support for new file formats:
  • Support for BAG has been upgraded to v1.4.
  • Reference models created in the Engineering Analysis module can be opened directly.
  • Raster formats such as USGS DEM and ESRI ASCII Grids can be opened directly.
  • New Export View command:
  • The new command to Export the View allows the creation of images in the GeoTIFF, PNG, TIF and KMZ formats. Images created in the GeoTIFF and KMZ formats are georeferenced and can easily be brought into other geospatial software systems such as CARIS BASE Editor or Google Earthâ„¢.
